Got Sit owners and dogs stand out in a crowd. Well-behaved dogs are noteworthy, it’s true. But that’s the just tip of the iceberg. If you’ve Got Sit, you’re grooving to a different beat. Wondering if you’ve got it? See if any of the following ring true.
You know you’ve Got Sit when…
… you talk to your dog in low, dulcet tones. Why? Because they have excellent hearing and you have their attention. There’s no need to yell, shout or raise your voice. Who wants to yell at a friend anyway?
…”good” is practically a mantra: “good boy,” “good sit,” “good down,” “good come,” “good place”… And why not? Dogs are good! They’re even better when they have clear, concise instructions and know what good behavior is.
…”place” is everywhere: benches, picnic tables, stumps, random invisible spots on the ground. If your dog can sit on it, it’s “place.” Handy, huh? Makes it so much easier to reinforce training skills any time, any place.
…”uh-uh” is your new “no.” It started with redirecting your dog, but now it pops out when you’re redirecting humans too. That’s okay. No one likes to hear “no.”
… you frequently fling your arms wide, point animatedly, and make weird hand gestures when directing your dog. Who cares?! Body language is key to good owner-dog communication. Looking a little silly is a small price to pay for a well-behaved dog.
… you are leashless or have a loose leash at the least. Try and say that 10 times fast! J Since your dog walks with you – no pulling! Your dog knows heel means being right by your side.
… you’re calm, cool, collected when taking your dog into the world. It’s easy and fun because you think outside the leash and have a healthy, balanced relationship with your dog. Other owners envy your stress-free decorum and wish their dog responded like yours.
