I was living in Oregon and working as a Pharmacist at a hospital. One of the pharmacy technicians was looking for a dog for her parents, and showed me a picture of a puppy on Gorge.net (similar to Craigslist, but specific to the Columbia Gorge) that was listed as needing a new home. In the picture, the puppy was in the bathtub with a little kid, and had bubbles all over him; he was super cute! The tech's father had said he looked 'like a gremlin' and wasn't interested.
My parents and my sister both have Boston's, so of course I thought he was the cutest thing I'd ever seen! So, I quickly called the number on the ad, went and met the puppy on my lunch break, and picked him up and took him home after work that day. He has been a part of our family ever since!
Dexter is super curious, and is easily distracted by anything around him (birds, bees, butterflies, other dogs, kids... you name it, he's curious). When he sees or hears something, he runs up to it at full speed, and if it moves, he'll chase it. Trying to call him back is completely useless; he doesn't even notice. He just comes back when on his own terms. We had been working on agility training to try to get him to pay attention and listen to commands, but he still wasn 't learning recall. The day he chased a bird down the middle of a somewhat busy street was the day we realized we needed more help! Got Sit has given us confidence that we will be able to get Dexter 's attention when he is distracted. It has also taught us how to walk him like a well-behaved dog instead of a salmon caught on a fishing line. Got Sit has allowed us to give Dexter more freedom without the worry that he 'll be difficult to catch. He is becoming a well trained dog, and I' m proud his achievements!
